We were lucky enough to have a 4 day eco-sailing trip around the Whitsunday Islands off the tropical North Queensland coast. The captain and the crew made sure that we had the best time and the weather was mostly on our side too.
Captain Dave knew all the good spots depending on the weather conditions and took us to a couple of places which had some of the best snorkelling I’ve ever see. We got out on the kayaks, went on a couple of informational wildlife walks and Dave astonished us with his knowledge of the stars as he pointed out all the constellations from the deck on a beautiful starry night.
A definite highlight was getting onto the famous Whitehaven beach, with its beautifully soft and ‘squeaky’ sand. The view from the lookout was exactly as it looks in every Instagram image I’ve seen. As part of the eco trip, we got to do a clean-up of a small beach which was tucked away behind the main beaches, because of this there are very few tourists who visit the beach. The amount of plastic and rubbish which we collected was mind blowing and very eye opening to the damage which plastic does to our ocean’s. We were all super grateful for the opportunity to do something good for the environment in such a beautiful surroundings.
Big thanks to the team on the S.V Whitehaven for a magical time
